Escape the Heat. Set Course for the PolesNewayer Arrives at Shanghai Global Harbor
Shanghai, 21 August 2026 — At the height of summer, as heat and the lingering effects of a typhoon swept across the city, an invitation to ice, snow and faraway horizons quietly opened at Shanghai Global Harbor.
Newayer (Beijing Newayer International Travel Service Co., Ltd.), a pioneer in China’s high-end travel sector, officially arrived at the B2 Central Hall of Shanghai Global Harbor with a five-day Polar Cruise Carnival, while launching a programme of events celebrating the company’s 25th anniversary.
On 21 August, Newayer founder and CEO Zhang Xinyuan invited Ding Zuohong, member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and chairman of the board of Yuexing Group; Xu Ning, station leader of China’s 31st Antarctic expedition at Great Wall Station; and Tong Yue, president of China Construction Bank’s Shanghai Jiangning Road Sub-branch, to attend the opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony. Together with guests and polar-travel enthusiasts, they marked an important moment in Newayer’s twenty-five years in high-end travel.
Professionalism in honour of the poles,
passion in return for trust
At the opening ceremony, Zhang Xinyuan looked back on the company’s development since its founding in 2002. She said:
“From our first steps into polar travel to becoming a benchmark company for polar cruise services in China, Newayer has always remained true to its original purpose: ‘to add colour to our customers’ life journeys’. Over the past 25 years, we have witnessed Chinese travellers move from curiosity about the poles to a deep love for them, and we have continued to accompany every traveller in realising that dream through professional, safe and in-depth service.”
A distinguished guest at the event, Xu Ning, station leader of China’s 31st Antarctic expedition at Great Wall Station, attended in person. Xu has travelled to Antarctica nine times and explored the Arctic twice, witnessing the remarkable growth of China’s polar research programme. In an interview, he shared first-hand experiences of Antarctic research and reflected on the meaning of the polar spirit: “Antarctica is a shared environmental heritage and scientific treasure for all humanity. I am pleased to see professional organisations such as Newayer giving more people the opportunity to enter, experience and protect the polar regions safely, responsibly and sustainably.”
Eighteen years of dedication,
a benchmark for polar travel
Since organising its first Antarctic cruise journey in 2008, Newayer has spent eighteen years working deeply in this world of ice and snow.
To date, Newayer has successfully organised more than 70 voyages to the Arctic and Antarctic, including over 30 full-ship Chinese-language charters, helping nearly 10,000 travellers safely realise their polar dreams.
Core team members have served for an average of more than eight years, and every travel consultant has made multiple first-hand visits to the polar regions. Direct cooperation with more than 20 polar cruise companies enables Newayer to deliver greater depth and flexibility while keeping safety at the centre.
In terms of industry credentials, Newayer is a member of both the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO) and the Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators (AECO). It was also the first mainland Chinese member of Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), and among the first Chinese members of the world-leading luxury travel network Virtuoso. In 2024, Newayer helped initiate 66° Expeditions, China’s first polar expedition cruise company. These respected memberships and industry positions reflect Newayer’s professional capability and brand credibility.
Five days of polar discovery,
with limited-time anniversary benefits
The Polar Cruise Carnival was open to the public daily from 10:00 to 22:00 through 24 August.
The event brought together Antarctic itinerary resources and field material, allowing visitors to experience the appeal of the polar regions in the heart of the city. Newayer’s professional consultants also offered one-to-one advice, helping each visitor organise an itinerary and match suitable travel dates.
To celebrate the company’s 25th anniversary, Newayer introduced limited benefits during the carnival to suit different travellers’ individual needs. Further anniversary activities and benefits, spanning distinctive itineraries and in-depth travel experiences, will be announced in due course.
