01 / WHY THIS JOURNEY

A journey with more than one reason to go

Svalbard mountains and coastline
01

Svalbard · gateway to the High Arctic

Embark in Longyearbyen and plan to visit Ny-Ålesund before exploring glaciers, fjords, sea ice and coastline. China's Yellow River Station is located in Ny-Ålesund; the actual visit and access depend on local arrangements.

High-Arctic community and cultural setting
02

Ny-Ålesund · science and expedition history

A former mining settlement transformed into an international Arctic research base, Ny-Ålesund also served as a departure point for early polar expeditions. The plan includes time around the settlement, museum and post office, subject to access.

Glaciers, mountains and a Zodiac in East Greenland
03

Northeast Greenland National Park

Enter a vast wilderness coast and plan to explore Kaiser Franz Joseph Fjord. Glaciers flow from the inland ice cap toward the sea, where icebergs, drift ice, rock walls and tundra shape a complete High-Arctic landscape.

Colourful mountain layers reflected in King Oscar Fjord
04

King Oscar Fjord · mineral-coloured geology

Layered mountains take on varied colours from their mineral composition, contrasting with sculptural icebergs. Zodiac cruising, kayaking or hiking may be offered when weather, sea state and safety assessments allow.

Mountain and lake landscape near Scoresby Sund
05

Ittoqqortoormiit · an East Greenland community

A planned call at one of the region's most remote settlements offers context on Inuit traditions and present-day life in the High Arctic. Any community visit will respect the access and arrangements confirmed locally.

Reykjavik skyline and Hallgrimskirkja
06

Reykjavík and the Golden Circle

After disembarkation, the planned Iceland programme links Reykjavík, Hallgrímskirkja and the Golden Circle, adding tectonic, geothermal and waterfall landscapes to the High-Arctic voyage.
